Last days in Kenya!
A few last pictures of life in Tala before we were evacuated home. Kenya held presidential elections on December 27th, 2007, and the outcome threw the country into some terrible violence. VSO called us near the end of January to say that they were suspending the volunteer program in Kenya because they felt it was unsafe for volunteers. We were sad to leave (as we'd only been in Kenya for three months), but we understood.
We took some pictures of our surroundings, our colleagues, and the shamba (farm) at our house before finally flying home on January 31st. From Nairobi we went through Amsterdam and then to Minnesota, of course with five hour layovers at each airport! We met up with Sara's sister Claudia in the Minneapolis airport because she lives near by. It was unexpected and random to fly through MN, but we loved seeing Claudia and catching up to speed.
Enjoy these pictures and cross your fingers that Kenya becomes safe enough for us to go back. We'll be hanging out in California for the mean time...
